It has 6 quick access shortcut keys and a rotary dial which is quite handy for zooming, changing the brush size, moving around the canvas, etc.

9. Huion H640P

The best cheap graphics tablet, ideal for beginners

Huion H640P cheap graphics tablet

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

Pressure sensitivity: 8192 levels + battery-free  |  Connectivity: USB  |Active Area: 6.3 x 3.9 inches  |Weight: 277 grams, 8mm thickness

  • Battery-free pen with 8192 pressure sensitivity levels
  • 6 programmable shortcut keys
  • Small size (6 x 4 inch active area)

The Huion H640P is one of the best options as a drawing tablet for beginners. For a small tablet like this, It does have pretty solid specifications including 8192 pressure sensitivity levels and a battery-free digital stylus.

Additionally, it is a really lightweight and portable device, weighing only 277 grams and being only 8 mm thick (just a bit thicker than an iPhone).

► Note: Although we have chosen the H640P as the best cheap graphics tablet, you may want to go for the next level up which is its "cousin" the Huion H950P. The H950P is a very interesting option as it includes tilt sensitivity, plus it's a Medium size which is better for most applications. Up to you. Here you can compare the Huion H640P and the Huion H950P.

8. Wacom Intuos Pro M

Professional graphics tablet with tilt sensitivity and multi-touch functionality

Wacom Intuos Pro M professional drawing tablet

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

Tilt sensitivity: Yes  |Multi-touch:  Yes  |Digital stylus: Wacom Pro Pen 2, battery-free, 8192 pressure sensitivity levels

  • Wireless, Tilt sensitivity and Multi-touch functionality (not bad)
  • Pro Pen 2 battery-free digital stylus with 8192 pressure sensitivity levels

  • A bit expensive. Over-priced? Judge by jourself

Whether some people like it or not, the Wacom Intuos Pro M is the reference in graphics tablets for digital drawing, illustration, graphic design and 3D modeling. It does have its defenders and detractors, though. Some users consider Wacom equals top quality. Some consider it over-priced. In any case, it is only fair to recognize that this is the only graphics tablet on the market that includes Multi-touch functionality, Tilt sensitivity and Wireless connectivity.

This graphics tablet is widely used by professionals and some consider it to be the top of the range. Whether to buy this tablet or not, it depends on your preferences. You can check its price here.

7. Huion GT-191HD

"The best drawing tablet with screen in terms of quality-price ratio"

Huion GT-191HD 19.5 inch drawing monitor

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

The Huion GT-191HDone of the best selling graphics tablets with screen. It's no surprise that it has become such a success, as it has top quality specs for its price.

  • 19.5'' Full HD screen, complete viewing angle of 178 degrees
  • Rechargeable digital pen, 8192 pressure levels, 233 RPS report rate (pretty high)
  • One of the best selling graphic tablets with screen
  • No programmable shortcut keys

Huion Kamvas GT-191 V2 is on Amazon at a good price

Considered the best drawing monitor for quality-price ratio, on this screen size (the "golden" 19.5 inch size) and for its price, there is currently no other drawing monitor that matches the performance of the Huion GT-191HD.

The GT-191HD is among the top selling graphic tablets with screen. Its manufacturer Huion is the second top seller in graphic tablets right after Wacom.

The 19.5 inch screen of the GT-191HD is considered the "golden" size, as it is not too large to take up so much desk space, and big enough to allow ample comfortable drawing. Its rechargeable digital stylus with 8192 pressure levels can work for up to 350 hours with just 1.5 hours of charging time.

If we had to find a flaw, this would be the lack of programmable buttons, however this is an optional feature for many, as not everyone uses them, and many users prefer the convenience of a wireless keyboard anyway. You can see its price here.

6. Huion Kamvas Pro 22 (21.5 inch professional drawing monitor)

The best professional drawing monitor - like a Cintiq 22HD - but for less than half the price

Huion Kamvas Pro 22

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

Spectacular professional drawing monitor, similar to the ultra-famous Wacom Cintiq 22HD (but for less than half the price).

  • 21.5'' Full HD display, full 178 degrees viewing angle + Anti+glare glass.
  • 20 programmable shortcut keys + 2 touch bars
  • Battery-free digital stylus with 8192 levels, 266 RPS and Tilt Support
  • Less than half the cost of the ultra-famous Wacom Cintiq 22HD

Huion Kamvas Pro 22 is on Amazon at a good price

The Kamvas Pro 22 is the most advanced, high-end pen display drawing tablet of the Huion range. It is a direct competitor to the renowned Wacom Cintiq 22HD, and even surpasses it on some specs, like the pen pressure sensitivity levels and the report rate (266 RPS is the fastest on the market nowadays).

It features a large 21.5 inch Full HD screen, with 10 programmable shortcut keys and 1 touch bar per side. The PW500 digital stylus of this tablet has 8192 pressure sensitivity levels, more than the Cintiq 22HD, and it also has Tilt sensitivity.

The most interesting feature of this drawing tablet is that it costs less than half the price of the Cintiq 22HD. Here you can check by yourself the price of the Kamvas Pro 22 versus how much a Cintiq 22HD costs.

Here you can read our full review of the Kamvas Pro 22.

5. XP-Pen Artist Display 13.3 V2

The best cheap graphics tablet with screen

XP-Pen Artist Display 13.3 V2 pen display graphic tablet

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

Please note: this is the best cheap graphics tablet with screen, although not the cheapest one 🙂 It has the best specs in the price range of graphics tablets considered "cheap", but you can definitely find cheaper ones.

  • 13.3'' Full HD screen, full 178 degrees viewing angle
  • 6 programmable shortcut keys (good for left-handed and right-handed use)
  • Battery-free pen with 8192 pressure sensitivity levels
  • 3-in-1 cable for video, data and power supply

The XP-Pen Artist Display 13.3 V2 is a pretty good drawing tablet in what is considered the cheap price range, for all that it offers. For its price, it is very difficult to find a drawing screen that can match its characteristics: battery-free pen with 8192 pressure sensitivity levels, 6 programmable shortcut keys, Full HD screen and the convenient 3-in-1 cable.

If you have seen our selection guide at the bottom of this page, you already know that the 3-in-1 cable is a nice to have extra feature, which this tablet does have. Also its 13.3 inch screen is a compact and portable size but not as small as the 10 inch screens.

You can see this tablet in detail here.

The best Windows tablet for drawing, graphic design and 3D modeling

The following tablet has been selected as the best Windows tablet computer for drawing, digital illustration, graphic design and using 3D modeling/sculpting programs, because of its impressive power and versatility at an affordable price.

4. Microsoft Surface Pro 6

The best Windows tablet for drawing, graphic design and 3D

Microsoft Surface Pro 6 one of the best windows tablets for drawing, graphic design and 3D

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

Great tablet for pretty much anything. Good for digital drawing and illustration, graphic design, photo-retouching and 3D design, modeling and animation.

  • 12.3 inch screen with higher than Full HD resolution: 2736 x 1824 pixels
  • Intel 8th gen QUAD-CORE processor, i5 o i7
  • 8GB up to 16GB RAM, plus 256GB up to 1TB SSD storage
  • Works with Surface Pen digital stylus with 4096 pressure sensitivity levels

The Surface Pro 6 is the reference Windows tablet computer for graphic design, animation and 3D design, only surpassed by the number one in this list (further down). In particular, the screen of the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a spectacular display, with better than Full HD resolution and an impressive colour quality that has been featured in some technical articles as one of the best screens found in tablets. The latest version of the Surface Pen (sold separately) has 4096 pressure levels, but it gives a pretty good drawing precision and good responsiveness when drawing on screen.

The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is a full tablet computer, reliable and versatile, which you can use not only for designing with Photoshop, Illustrator or 3D modeling software, but also for any other general use software. Here you can check the price of this impressive device.

The best Android tablet for drawing (NOT for graphic design or 3D)

This is the Android tablet selected in the Top 10 for being the best one for drawing, at a reasonable price (not for graphic design or 3D, though). You can get getter tablets (i.e. with higher specs) but not for this price, and not so well suited for drawing.

If you want to see other Android tablets for drawing, read this article about tablets (with operating system) for drawing, graphic design and 3D.

3. Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 with S Pen

The best Android tablet for drawing (not for graphic design or 3D)

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 with S Pen, one of the best Android tablets for drawing and art creation

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

The Galaxy Tab S3 with S Pen is the best Android tablet for drawing. Here are its features:

  • sAMOLED high resolution screen: 2048 x 1536 pixels
  • 32GB storage (up to 512GB with micro-SD card), and 4GB RAM
  • GPS, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer and fingerprint sensor
  • S Pen with 4096 pressure levels (included)

With the new S pen with 4096 pressure sensitivity levels, the Galaxy Tab S3 is the best Android tablet for drawing (unless you want to buy the Galaxy Tab S4, which does have higher specs but is more expensive). The Galaxy Tab S3 is great for drawing on Android apps such as Sketchbook, it has almost no noticeable delay when drawing, it rejects well the palm of the hand and pressure sensitivity of the S Pen works pretty well.

The Galaxy Tab S3 costs less than an iPad Pro 2nd gen, and for drawing or as a daily use tablet it's pretty good.

If you are looking to buy an Android tablet for drawing, the Galaxy Tab S3 should be the first one you look at. You can check it out here. If you want a cheaper tablet, the previous model the Galaxy Tab A with S Pen is a complete best seller Android tablet for drawing (have a look, it has "only" 2500 reviews on Amazon).

The best iOS tablet for drawing and graphic design (NOT for 3D)

Best iOS tablet selected for having the best features for digital drawing and graphic design, at an affordable price. We don't recommend it for 3D modeling/sculpting, as for this you will most likely have to use a Windows or macOS device. If you are looking for a tablet computer for 3D, look at the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, or the last tablet on this list.

2. iPad Pro 12.9 inch (2nd gen)

The best iOS tablet for drawing and graphic design (not for 3D)

iPad Pro 12.9 inch (2nd generation) for drawing

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

  • 12.9 inch screen with higher than Full HD resolution: 2732 x 2048 pixels
  • Apple A10X Fusion processor and Apple M10 co-processor
  • 12 Mpx rear-facing camera (this camera is spectacular) and 7 Mpx front-facing camera
  • Apple Pencil not included

The iPad Pro is great not only as a digital drawing tablet, but also for graphic design, thanks to apps like Affinity Designer. The downside is that the Apple Pencil is sold separately.

The Apple Pencil works pretty well when it comes to drawing over the screen of the iPad Pro, although Apple keeps secretive (as usual) about how many pressure sensitivity levels it has built in. You almost don't notice any parallax effect, and you get the feeling that the lines appear on screen just when the Apple Pencil touches the screen. On top of that, it has built-in tilt sensitivity, a great feature that not many tablets have.

Here you can see the price of the 2nd gen iPad Pro.

The best all-in-one tablet and computer for drawing, 3D modeling and animation

We finally get to number 1. The number one on this list wins this title for being the tablet computer most optimized for digital drawing and illustration, graphic design, animation, 3D modeling/sculpting, video editing or any other creative activity in 2D or 3D.

1. Wacom MobileStudioPro

Simply the best tablet computer for digital drawing, animation and 3D modeling

Wacom MobileStudioPro 13 inch, the best tablet computer for artists

[Click on the image to see it on Amazon]

  • Wacom Pro Pen 2 with 8192 pressure sensitivity levels and tilt sensitivity
  • Multi-touch functionality on all models
  • 3D scanning camera (on the top models of the range)

Wacom's MobileStudioPro is the reference tablet computer for graphic design, digital drawing/illustration and 3D creation. It is especially designed for drawing and digital illustration, graphic design, 3D modeling/sculpting, video editing and all creative applications in 2D and 3D.

This is not just a plain tablet, it is a powerful computer optimized for digital creation, with enough power to run the most demanding design software such as Photoshop/Illustrator, Adobe Premiere or 3D modeling/sculpting programs like 3D Studio Max, ZBrush or SolidWorks.

This is a tablet computer for drawing and designing at a professional level, for students or future professionals of 2D and 3D design. You can see the full review here, including a breakdown of all features and models of the range.

How to Choose a Drawing Tablet

Use these guidelines as a reference when choosing what graphics tablet to buy.

Drawing Tablets without screen:

► 1st)Choose the size (S, M, L) taking into account your desk's size. S (Small) is a very reduded size, M (Medium) is the most balanced size for most desks, L (Large) is great if you have enough desk space.

Approx. dimensions of graphic tablet without screen

► 2nd) Choose whether you want your drawing tablet to be Wireless : this is one of the things that can make a noticeable difference in terms of comfort while using the graphics tablet. A wireless drawing tablet is always a good thing as it reduces the amount of cables over your desk and allows you to work more comfortably. Therefore our recommendation is to make Wireless functionality a priority when choosing a drawing tablet, if at all possible.

► 3rd) Choose whether you want tilt sensitivity: This means that you can change the thickness and texture of the brush stroke depending on the inclination of the digital stylus with respect to the drawing surface. This is useful to simulate traditional drawing techniques such as charcoal, real brushes, etc. This feature is usually only on the top range graphics tablets such as the Intuos Pro, etc. Hence, decide beforehand if you are willing to pay more for a graphics tablet with this capability.

Tilt sensitivity in a graphics tablet

► 4th) Choose whether you want multi-touch functionality : This means that you can zoom in and out with two fingers on the tablet surface, or you can pan and move around the canvas with multiple finger touch gestures on the tablet surface. This feature is usually only found in top of the range drawing tablets. You will have to decide if you want your drawing tablet to have this feature.

Multi-touch functionality in drawing tablets

► 5th)Pressure sensitivity levels: All graphics tablets have pressure sensitivity, although some have more levels than others. This determines how accurately does the tablet detect the pressure applied on the digital stylus while drawing. Bear in mind that pressure levels is not the only factor to determine the responsiveness, accuracy or smoothness while drawing on a graphics tablet. What matters is an overall smooth and natural response, no broken lines, no delay when drawing lines, etc. But in general more pressure levels should be a good indicator of the accuracy of the drawing tablet.

Pressure sensitivity in graphic tablets

► 6th)Battery-free digital stylus: Most graphic tablets include a rechargeable digital stylus which means it has a small rechargeable battery inside, which you have to recharge through USB every so often. Some tablets however include a battery-free digital stylus which means you don't have to care about running out of battery or recharging it. This is convenient as it is one less thing to worry about. In general this is a good feature to have, so if you can get a graphic tablet with a battery-free pen, even better.

Drawing Tablets with screen:

When buying a graphics tablet with screen or drawing monitor, follow these guidelines:

► 1st) Choose first the size of the drawing screen : this is measured in inches (13'', 15.6'', 19.5'', 21.5'', etc). 10 inches is relatively small, up to 15.6 inches it's a portable, compact medium size. 19.5 inch is a pretty good size for most uses, somewhat of a "golden" size, ample enough to draw comfortably but not too large to take up all your desk space. 21.5 inches is a large screen, great to draw on, just make sure you have enough desk space.

Approximate dimensions of drawing tablets with screen (pen displays)

► 2nd) Decide whether you want programmable shortcut keys : Some drawing monitors have programmable shortcut keys on one or both sides, which can help speed up your workflow or comfort while drawing. Although some users may find these convenient, they are not essential, so it is perfectly fine to get a pen display tablet without shortcut keys, it just depends on your personal preference.

► 3rd) Screen resolution and colour quality: Ideally you would get a Full HD or higher resolution screen. Not all drawing screens are though, and this is a factor in the cost of a drawing monitor. Drawing tablets with lower resolution screens can be cheaper and still be good enough depending on user needs. It is also important for the screen to have good color quality or color gamut, this is measured in % of NTSC or % Adobe RGB. If you are on a tight budget, you can save some money buying a pen display tablet with a non-Full HD screen.

► 4th) "Nice to have" extras: 3-in-1 cables. Pen display tablets generally use 3 cables: a HDMI cable for video, a USB cable for data, and a separate power supply cable. Some tablets however include a convenient 3-in-1 cable that incorporates the 3 functions in one cable, reducing the amount of cables over your desk and helping you keep a much tidier workspace. If you can get a pen display tablet with a 3-in-1 cable, it's a nice to have extra.

► 5th) Another "Nice to have" extra: anti-glare coating.Yet another nice to have, some graphic tablets with screen incorporate an anti-glare coating or glass that reduces reflections, especially when working outside on bright days. Manufacturers like XP-Pen are starting to add this feature to their drawing tablets, so if you can get a tablet with this, it's a plus.
